Health and Nature

Caring for the Environment is caring for Health.

In light of World Environment day earlier this week, CFFHP would like to briefly discuss the importance of the environment as it relates to our health. The air we breathe, the water we drink and the nature that we are connected to is vital to our health. Of course we need clean air and water in order to survive, but also a connection to nature and animals is shown to enhance mood, reduce stress and provide a sense of balance in our busy lives. Heavy immersion in career objectives, technology and metropolitan lifestyles can disconnect us from how important our environment is to living a full and prosperous life. This disconnect can also cause people to forget how important taking care of our fragile environment is to the health of future generations. It’s everyone’s responsibility to do their part in helping to nurture this planet we live on, but it starts with awareness.

An encouraging example of good health and helping the environment is  “Plogging” - an eco-friendly mashup of jogging and picking up trash. A movement that has swept across Canada this spring.

Below are some other simple ways you can better appreciate nature and take care of the environment. Feel good about investing in your own health and the health of the environment. Little changes can make a big difference!

  • Get out for a walk in one of Toronto’s beautiful parks

  • Get outside the city core for a bike ride

  • Go swimming or get out on the water with a kayak, canoe, paddle board, boat..

  • Enjoy the abundance of nature north of Toronto

  • Be eco-friendly with the products you purchase

  • Conserve energy in your home

    • Think of all the ways you can minimize waste: Re-usable water bottles and coffee mug, Re-usable grocery bags, Re-usable food containers, Asking for no straw in your drink, etc.

  • Dispose of your waste properly

  • Be a positive influence on others around you
